3 CREDITS : PREREQUISITES

This course explores the evolution of education throughout history and across global contexts, examining how social and political factors have shaped the diverse educational systems we see today. It delves into the contributions of classical and modern thinkers, analyzing their influence on contemporary education and the evolving roles of educators. The impact of globalization on educational practices, along with the diversity of educational systems and values worldwide, will be critically examined, encouraging students to reflect on and develop their own philosophy of education.

2 CREDITS

This course will equip students with an understanding of an organization’s internal financial conditions and how decision-makers manage these resources in relation to external markets and institutions. It will delve into the finances of economic development and explore sources of early- and late-stage financing. The course will address real-world challenges in corporate finance. Students will gain specific skills such as financial trend analysis for interpreting financial statements, calculating the present value of cash flows to construct capital budgets, determining bond interest tax shields and their impact on a firm’s average cost of capital, building corporate valuation models, and assessing how different sources of capital affect a firm’s capital structure costs.

3 CREDITS 

This course provides an introduction to major curricular models, examining their design, development, implementation, and evaluation processes. It explores the roles of technology, disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, and emphasizes teaching methods that promote inquiry and conceptual understanding. Strategies for planning, conducting, and assessing curricula are comprehensively addressed, along with the practical challenges educators encounter in making curriculum decisions. Additionally, the course analyzes how legislative policies, local and global socio-political influences, and the value systems of key stakeholders impact curriculum planning and choices.

3 CREDITS

This course emphasizes the significance of classroom organization and behavior management in cultivating conducive teaching and learning environments. It explores how the physical classroom environment, transitions, procedures, norms, and expectations influence behavior management. The development of effective communication and social skills, as well as strategies for fostering collaborative relationships between teachers and students, will be thoroughly examined. The course also addresses alternative methods for managing routine and disruptive discipline issues, with a focus on creating learning environments that encourage student risk-taking and learning from mistakes.  

3 CREDITS

This course explores the diverse characteristics that students in a single classroom may exhibit and how these differences can affect learning outcomes. It covers the implications of physical and sensory disabilities, health impairments, cognitive abilities, emotional and psychological differences, as well as variability in racial/ethnic backgrounds, gender, culture, socio-economic status, and language. The course discusses the external and internal factors influencing instructional adaptation and their significance for teachers.

This course examines both formal and informal classroom assessments and their role in informing curricular decisions, tailoring instruction, promoting student achievement, and enhancing teacher effectiveness. It explores various types of assessments such as classroom, diagnostic, placement, problem-solving, formative, and summative assessments, discussing their nature and purpose. Topics include test construction, designing authentic and unbiased teacher-made assessments, ensuring fair and transparent grading practices, and utilizing rubrics and checklists effectively. The course also addresses the implications of online testing and the integration of e-assessments for developing authentic and multimedia-rich assessment tasks.  

3 CREDITS :  ALL CORE AND SPECIALIZATION REQUIREMENTS; CAPSTONE PROJECT; FINAL TERM OF STUDY; APPROVAL TO REGISTER

Successful students at People's United University who meet all eligibility criteria may have the opportunity to participate in an internship at various educational institutions. During the internship, students work under the guidance of a master teacher, gaining valuable insights into the organizational dynamics, management practices, policy formulation, decision-making processes, available resources, programs and services, professional staff, and student body within a real-world school environment.

3 CREDITS :  TO BE TAKEN THE TERM BEFORE PUED 4910

This course, the first in the capstone series, will concentrate on practitioner research models and inquiry methods suited for applied research. It will offer insights into the strengths and limitations of these methods and tools. Topics covered will include human subject regulations and the ethics of conducting research in school settings. Students will select a topic for investigation and create an applied research proposal. This proposal will define the research question, explain the rationale, include a literature review, and outline the data collection and analysis plans.

Note: Students must achieve a grade of B- or higher to pass this capstone course. If they do not, they may retake it once. Failing to earn a B- or higher on the second attempt will result in ineligibility for degree conferral. In such cases, the student will not be allowed to re-enter the Master in Business Administration program and must wait five terms before applying to any other program at People's United University.

3 CREDITS : AS THIS IS THE FINAL COURSE IN THE MED ALL REQUIRED COURSES MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE TAKING THIS AND NO OTHER COURSES CAN BE TAKEN CONCURRENTLY; FINAL TERM OF STUDY .

During the culminating phase of their academic journey, students will execute the planned data collection and analysis activities delineated in their applied research proposal. Subsequently, they will craft a comprehensive written report elucidating and interpreting the findings of their research endeavor. The report will delve into the implications for pioneering new pedagogical practices and advancing professional growth. Furthermore, students will deliver a presentation of their Research and Practice Portfolio, showcasing tangible evidence of their development and advancement throughout the program. In the event that a student does not attain a grade of B- or higher, they will be granted the opportunity to retake the capstone course once. Failure to meet the B- or higher benchmark on the second attempt will render the student ineligible for degree conferral. In such instances, the student will be precluded from re-enrollment in the Master of Education program and must observe a waiting period of five (5) terms before being eligible to apply to any other programs at People's United University.

This course aims to develop a comprehensive set of pedagogical strategies that are developmentally appropriate and supportive of student learning, while recognizing the diverse backgrounds and prior knowledge of students. Emphasis will be placed on methods that encourage students to engage in inquiry-based learning, actively make sense of the world around them, and connect new knowledge with what they have previously learned. The course will highlight the delivery of intellectually stimulating and inclusive instruction for elementary and middle school students, focusing on the development of both conceptual understanding and skills. Additionally, it will cover when and how to use various instructional methods, including teacher-led whole group activities, small cooperative learning groups, independent learning, and the integration of technology.

This course will examine child development, focusing on the K-8 school-aged population, from biological/physical, cognitive, emotional, and social perspectives, highlighting their interrelatedness from birth to early adolescence. Major developmental theories and factors that enhance growth will be compared and evaluated, with a special emphasis on their implications for educational practice. Additionally, the course will explore the interconnected environments that children navigate, including school, home, and the broader community.

3 CREDITS 

This course will explore how curricular relevance, teaching style, and instructional techniques impact academic attitudes and learning in the secondary school classroom. It will cover the appropriate timing and methods for employing teacher-led whole-group activities, small cooperative learning groups, and independent learning, along with the integration of technology to support active learning. The focus will be on collaborative, inquiry-based, student-centered teaching and project-based learning, emphasizing students' active involvement in their own knowledge acquisition.

3 CREDITS 

This course will examine adolescent development from biological/physical, psychological, emotional, cognitive, and social perspectives, offering insights into the rapid changes that occur during this period. Topics include adolescent brain development and thinking, social-emotional and moral development, gender and sexual identity, and ethnic, racial, and cultural identity, all explored from a cross-cultural perspective to understand variations in school settings. The course will also investigate the multiple worlds adolescents navigate, including the influence and importance of peers, friendships, and social media. Additionally, it will discuss the role of non-cognitive skills in school success and strategies for fostering academic identity.
